Happy Monday!

I hope you week is off to a great start! Day 1 of my new job is done and I'm currently getting up and running with all the projects at Hive. Thank you to all the well wishes 🙂

🎯 The Goldilocks Rule

The Goldilocks Rule states that humans experience peak motivation when working on tasks that are right on the edge of their current abilities. Not too hard. Not too easy. Just right.

James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, explores this rule and how it can be tied to long-term motivation in this article.

🚀🌕 Moonshot Thinking

Coming from Google X, the concept of Moonshot thinking is a neat way to shift your perspective from incremental to exponential thinking.

Each moonshot idea sits at the intersection of these three ingredients:

  1. A huge problem in the world that affects millions or billions of people
  2. A radical, sci-fi sounding solution that may seem impossible today
  3. A technology breakthrough that gives us a glimmer of hope that the answer could be possible in the next 5-10 years

They also outlined some qualities for moonshot thinking:

  • Aim for 10x, not 10%
  • Fall in love with the problem
  • Make contact with the real world early
  • Fuel creativity with diverse teams
  • Tackle the hardest problems first
  • Failure = Learning
  • Become a chaos pilot
  • Embrace crappy first drafts
  • Take the long-view
